Pharmaceutical Industry Diagnostic: Angola and Mozambique

On going

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the challenges confronting the pharmaceutical industry in Africa. The concentration of global manufacturing in regions outside Africa has resulted in African countries experiencing difficulties accessing vaccines and essential medicines. The pandemic has underscored the pressing need for vital equipment and crucial products in the African health sector. In response to these challenges, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has commissioned a pharmaceutical industry diagnostic in Angola and Mozambique. Plug-InMz, under the leadership of IQVIA, conducted a comprehensive review of the policy framework, legal statutes, regulatory mechanisms, and institutional milieu in both countries. The objective of the evaluation was to obtain a nuanced understanding of the incentives and disincentives that prevail for local pharmaceutical manufacturing and active participation in the pharmaceutical sector value chain.
